Welcome to Junior sailing at PCC!

This section is for sailors aged 8-18 years old.

7 year old sailors are accepted on a case-by-case basis (prior experience would be required), contact us to discuss.

This term we're starting our junior season with a free open day! Meet us at the club at 4pm Tuesday November 4th and we'll give sailing a go! Parents are also welcome, and might have the opportunity to get on the water too! Our 6 week course starts the following week. 

Each Junior sailing course has 1 x 3 hour session/week for 6 weeks of the term.

Registrations are taken a term at a time, and cost $400 for your first sailor, and $350 for subsequent siblings.

This term our programme will run on Tuesdays evenings 4pm-7pm.

Late entries will be taken on a case by case basis, contact us to discuss.

Level 1 - Learn to Sail

The starting point for new sailors. 

The Level 1 course follows the Yachting NZ syllabus and gives sailors the ability to sail around a course.

Recommended for sailors aged 8 and up. Please contact us regarding younger sailors.

This course uses Optimist sailing dinghies.

New sailos will be put in the "level 1" group for a term, but may complete level 1 and begin level 2 in a term.

Level 2 - Learn to Sail

Learn to sail faster.

The Level 2 course follows the Yachting NZ syllabus and builds on the basic skills learnt in Level 1. Level 2 helps sailors to sail faster and introduces more advanced manoevres.

Prerequisites - Level 1 completed.

This course uses Optimist sailing dinghies.

Sailors who have completed level 1 will be placed in a level 2 group. If they started level 2 in their "level 1" term, they will pick up where they left off and could start level 3.

Level 3+ - Learn to Race and Relax

Racing!

The Level 3 course follows the Yachting NZ syllabus and builds on the skills learnt in Level 1 & 2. Level 3 introduces racing rules and tactics, along with boat speed training. we also use some sesions to explore, enjoying the freedom that the skills already covered can provide.

Prerequisites - Level 2 completed.

This course uses a mix of Optimist, Bic & Splash sailing dinghies.

Teens Learn to Sail

A course for the older kids.

Combining the Level 1 & 2 courses together. This course aims to take a new sailor to a competent level where they are able to progress into learning to race and cruise after just one term.

Recommended for sailors aged 13 to 18.

This course predominantly uses the Splash sailing dinghies.

If you have a group that would like to sail at a different time than those above please let us know and we can organise extra sessions.

We work with a 1:6 ratio.
